Livelihood
& Income Generation

Women are mainly responsible for the day-to-day management of households, yet they often lack capacity to become engaged in income-generating activities. To improve the standard of living and quality of life for communities in Loro, Aber, and Iceme sub-counties, the project is currently supporting 9 community groups for sustainable income-generating projects.

Income-Generating Projects
  • Piggeries - two women’s health groups are raising pigs to sell for profit
  • Goat rearing - one health group is raising 20 goats for additional income
  • Tailoring project in Adyegi - the group has been trained to make canvas tote bags and school uniforms using sewing machines
  • Reusable sanitary pads - the members of Apit pe nino health group have been trained and a workshop has been constructed for the production of reusable sanitary pads for sale
  • Village Savings and Loan Associations - microfinance groups are created to allow community members to save a small amount each week and take out loans when needed for income-generating activities, school fees, or medical expenses
Accomplishments from the last six months
  • 3 new women's health groups have been identified and supported with Village Savings and Loan Association (VSLA) kits
  • 6 groups are currently being monitored and supported: 2 with piggeries, 1 with goats, 3 with tailoring
  • All groups are supported with a Village Savings and Loan Association (VSLA), and trained on business management
  • The project has reached 270 households directly
